The profession of the Aircraft Licensed Pilot a Choice

Around the world, young people who have finished their high school or pre-college studies, as well as, people who wish to make a change in their studies and/or their career select the profession of the Aircraft Licensed Pilot because they luxuriate immaterial rewards such as pride, self-satisfaction/-esteem, glamour, social status, recognition and values, mainly deriving from Pilot’s responsibilities and obligations to:

• the aircrews and passengers who trust their lives and safety to his/her piloting knowledge  and skills in terms of operating an aircraft;
• the Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs), which through the existing regulations they recognize, approve, certify and finally trust the Pilot as proficiently qualified and skilled  for accomplishing all those air operations and procedures referring to aircraft flight;
• the Employer, who expects from a Pilot to be a liable and professionally responsible under an existing contractual agreement;
• the fellow Pilots who as team members of the aircraft cockpit, or as colleagues under the same employer-airliner must depend upon each other for all the operational and piloting procedures referring to an aircraft either on ground or during a flight;
• his/her-self, for the personal satisfaction received, as result of an integrated operation of an aircraft from the moment of receptioning it (aircraft) as fit for the intended flight till the moment the aircraft engines shut down at the parking place of a destination, after completion of a flight.

Τhe professional establishment for the aircraft pilot is considered to be quick and guaranteed due to:

• the continuous aircraft fleet growth;
• the standardization of the profession worldwide and hence, the ability for working wherever around the world;
• the relatively shorter duration of studies (1,5-2 academic years) for acquiring the «basic aviation knowledge of a pilot» from Approved Training Organizations (ATOs), according to the European Aviation Safety standard (EASA), when compared with other studies and professional sectors;

Last but NOT least because the profession brings in to the holder of a Professional Pilot License as a reward, an annual revenue of lots of tenths of thousands of Euros, increasing year by year as the Pilot adds to his/her license other aircraft type training, qualifications, certifications, approvals, authorizations, experience etc., normally combined with ranking increase within the Company he/she belongs to and within the aviation industry, in general.
